

It is a multiplayer title set in Alaska that incorporates hardcore survivalist tropes from games such as Escape from Tarkov and Day-Z. Tom says there's a second title brewing at Ubisoft Montreal codenamed Project Maverick.

The four-year delay between subsequent games gives Ubisoft ample time to get back to the drawing board and give the franchise a much-needed overhaul. That said, it'll be a long time before one gets to find out because the game is slated for a 2025 launch. This should hopefully breathe some new life into the franchise with new mechanics and gameplay.

Titled Project Blackbird, Far Cry 7 will ditch the tried-and-tested Dunia engine and transition to Snowdrop, the same engine that powered Tom Clancy's The Division, The Division 2 and South Park: Fractured But Whole. According to industry insider Tom Henderson, Ubisoft is now working on Far Cry 7. It received all of its post-launch content about a year after its October 2021 launch and is unlikely to receive any more. Far Cry 6 was, for all intents and purposes, a bog-standard Far Cry game that repeated the same tropes debuted by Far Cry 3.
